Can I change content on my website?

You can change, add, remove content such as text or images, even flash presentations on your dynamic site.

There are millions of static websites on the Internet, you won?t be able to tell immediately if it is static, but the chances are, if the site looks basic and  delivers information without any bells and whistles, it is likely a static site. Static websites are typically updated updated by a website developer, a programmer. Static websites provide entry level web presence and serve like a business card on the web.

Advantages are:
  • Quick and relatively cheap development
  • Cheap hosting as no database setup is involved
Disadvantages are:
  • Little useful and little interest to the visitor as the information gets stagnant
  • Programming experience is required to make changes or third party development cost is required for each change
Dynamic sites can be but are not necessarily more expensive to develop. The advantages are huge and if an Open Source content management system with templates is used those sites feature tremendous benefits over static sites and are in fact unbeatable in price comparison.

A dynamic website is able to give the website's  owner the ability to  update and add new content to the site. News and events can be posted to the site using a web browser. There are no limits to what can be done except imagination. Features of dynamic sites are content management systems, e-commerce systems, discussion boards or forums or online galleries.

Even intranets or extranets with options for clients, staff or members and users to upload documents such as for online presentations are features of dynamic sites.  Administrators or access controlled users can create content or add information to a dynamic site part of which could be a regular newsletter, forum or e-commerce module.

Advantages of dynamic websites:

  • Very functional website
  • Easy to update by the owner or designated authorized user (no programming expertise needed)
  • New content brings people and prospects back to the site that helps in the search engines
  • Provides a system to allow staff or users to collaborate (CRM or CMS)
  • Database information can be used to generate business reports and provide statistics
  • Site can be used efficiently for targeted marketing using embedded mass mailing and self registration features
  • Great for eCommerce solutions or on-line catalogues

Disadvantages of dynamic websites:

  • Slower and more expensive to develop unless Open Source frameworks are used (Joomla, Mambo, Drupal or other)
  • Hosting costs a little more

Conclusion:

Although millions of  sites from are static, more users are realising the advantages of having a dynamic website. Dynamic websites can make the most of your site that you can use as a tool or create an information providing experience for your site visitors.
